Make These in the Name of Love

Ok – Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. (If you’re not a fan, I totally feel you. Sorry for all the lovey dovey, heart themed crafts I’ve been sharing for the past few weeks – and take solace in the fact that it is nearing an end.)

But if you are a fan, and you need some last minute ideas for quick decorations or gifts, here is a round of up some relatively simple projects that you can knock out while you are snowed in by winter storm number 9,452 this week. (Oh, how envious I am of you California friends…)

Wrapped Wire Heart

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! I had a kind of stinky weekend, but I’ve got quite a week ahead and am determined to get through it with a smile. The good news is there is a three day weekend on the horizon, not to mention the promise of a lovely date night with my beau in honor of Valentine’s Day.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, today I want to share a really easy Wrapped Wire Heart DIY.

This was one of those “let me experiment with this random stuff I have in my craft closet while watching the Olympics Opening Ceremony” projects. (Who wants one of those white furry vest & hat ensembles for this cold winter?? I do!)

So to make your own wrapped wire heart (or letter, star, or any other shape), you’ll need three things:

Wire (I used this kind)

String, Yarn, Twine, or whatever you want to wrap it with!  (I used pink jute twine from Michael’s)

Hot Glue Gun

All you have to do is bend your wire into the shape of your choice, and then wrap it! Use hot glue at the start & finish to keep everything in place, and that’s it!

You could make a few of these and string ’em on a garland, or make a mobile, or use them in a gallery wall on a teeny nail. Oh, the possibilities!

Have a wonderful day!

Mini Doily & Feather Valentine’s Garland

This sweet Valentine’s Day garland is as easy as pie! I love it in my kitchen right now, bringing some of that trademark Valentine’s Day pink & red to my love themed chalkboard.

Mini pink & red doilies (I found these at Michael’s)

White Feathers

Baker’s Twine

All you have to do is tie your doilies & feathers onto the baker’s twine, spacing them out & alternating them however you choose. So simple!

I love garlands so much. I mean, you can pretty much string just about anything you want onto string, rope or twine & call it a garland. They are usually a breeze to make, and are an awesome way to add simple little touches for holidays & seasons to your regular decor!

Happy Friday, everyone – I hope you have a great weekend!

Washi Tape Heart Decals

I picked up a couple of these little white milk bottles from the Target Dollar Spot a few weeks ago, and whipped up this temporary Valentine’s Day touch using washi tape! Here’s how:

Washi Tape (several different colors/patterns)

X-Acto Knife & Paper Cutting Mat

Heart Pattern (I just printed some hearts out onto card stock)

Cover the paper cutting mat with the tape – just randomly laying it in different directions so it overlaps & covers the majority of the mat.

Use an X-Acto knife to trace the heart pattern, pushing through the tape into the cutting mat. When you lift up the card stock, you will be able to peel the tape heart up like a sticker.

You can put your fun & colorful new heart shaped stickers anywhere you want! I put mine on my white milk bottles.

Such a simple way to temporarily spread the love (so to speak), and add some simple Valentine’s Day touches to dishes, vases, or whatever!

DIY Arrow Picture Mobile

I am obsessed with using arrows in my home decorating right now. Maybe not as obsessed as I am with burlap (which made this arrow & burlap art from a couple weeks ago a double-win), but definitely feeling it. I think they are perfect for valentine’s day, but can be non-seasonal at the same time, which means I don’t have to pack something away after displaying it for just a few weeks. And this project combines my love for arrows with another unique way to display some of my favorite photos!

Here are the supplies you need to make your own arrow picture mobile:

Wooden Skewers (we use these to do veggies on the grill, so I’ve got a whole bunch in my pantry)

Feathers (mine are mixed earthy colors)

Wooden Beads

Pictures (I displayed some of my favorite new prints from a recent Social Print Studio order, as well as three more polaroid prints from Marianne Hope (they were in the same ‘love’ set that I used in this picture display).

Kraft Paper Heart Gift Tags (these are from the Target Dollar Spot!)

To make the arrows, tie three feathers to one end of the wooden skewer with twine. Thread a bead or two onto the dowel, and hot glue triangles of felt to the other end to form the arrow head.

Once I had three arrows made, I connected them with long pieces of twine – doing my best to keep everything even & well balanced. Then you’re ready to clip on your pictures!

The little clothes pins are from the Target dollar spot, too.

I tied the little kraft paper heart gift tags onto each arrow for the “cupid’s arrow” effect, and I could easily take them off after Valentine’s Day. The overall effect is not very Valentines-y, though, so I may very well just leave it as it is!

And, by the way, Social Print Studio is the most amazing photo printing service ever! It is such an easy way to print your Instagram pics, or any other photos you have on your phone, straight from their iPhone app. I’ve ordered their beautiful, matte finish 4×4 prints several times (last year I made a bunch of prints from our wedding & put them in a fun little book). The quality & the price are amazing, and the shipping speed is awesome too!

Right now this is hanging in our living room, though I have a feeling I am going to move it to the bedroom once we paint & redecorate (in a month or two). And of course, the pictures are completely interchangeable, too!

Well, I hope you liked this fun project! Thanks for stopping by!
